We saw yesterday that, the Holy Place contains:
- the Lampstand
- the Table of Showbread
- the Altar of Incense.
Today, we will meditate on what we are to do at the Table of Showbread.
Jesus replied,
“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” – John 6:35
In the Holy Place, God commanded that 12 loaves of bread be placed on the Table of Showbread. What does the number 12 represent?
- The 12 loaves represent ALL 12 tribes of Israel.
- In the New Testament fulfillment, they also point to ALL the disciples of Christ. (including Gentiles who are saved, (ie) you and me).
We can understand that it is meant for all disciples from the assignment Jesus gave to each of them: every disciple carried one basket, making a total of twelve baskets after the feeding of the five thousand (Matthew 14:20).
Our learning here is simple: bread is for ALL, even after everyone has been fed, and ALL disciples have to carry the bread.
Applying this principle to our daily life: just as we feed our physical bodies every day, we must also feed our life with God’s Word (simply call as “our life instead “spiritual life”).
There are many ways to meditate on God’s Word, The showbread was eaten by priest daily, the same way, we should receive Rhema Word daily—a specific word from God for our present situation.
Let us meditate on one of the attributes of the Holy Spirit from yesterday’s list.
After 40 day s of fasting, Jesus was tempted. One scenario was when Satan said, “If you are the Son of God, turn this stone into bread and eat.” In response, Jesus said
“....man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” – Deuteronomy 8:3
This is reminded by Holy Spirit, even though the no explicitly verse saying, “The Holy Spirit reminded Jesus,” we understand this from:
“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness ..” Luke 4:1
When we are led by the Spirit, we too can remember and act on God’s Word in the right way.
| Lampstand / Attributes of Holy Spirit | Showbread / Word of Christ |

For Jesus, at the right time the Holy Spirit reminded Him of Deuteronomy 8:3: “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.” |

At the Table of Showbread, let us pray that the Holy Spirit will lead our lives through the Word of God in every situation, enabling us to overcome.
