Over the last three days, we have entered the Holy Place in prayer, that was once restricted only to the Levitical priests. This access is now possible to us because of the blood of Jesus Christ..
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.” Hebrews 10:19
This verse teaches us that we are not only permitted to enter the Holy Place, but also the Holy of Holies (the Most Holy Place). Under the old covenant, only the high priest could enter there, and that only once a year, and with strict regulations.
Through Jesus Christ, we have been given this precious privilege, to enter the Holy of Holies at any time and in any circumstance.
There was once a veil (curtain) separating the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies. Through His sacrifice, God has now opened the way, allowing all who believe in Jesus Christ(including Gentiles) to enter freely.
At the center of the Holy of Holies placed the Ark of the Covenant. Inside the Ark were three things, and on top was the Mercy Seat:
- The Tablets of the Ten Commandments
- The Jar of Manna
- Aaron’s staff that budded
- On the top Mercy Seat
Let us meditate on what the Tablets mean for us today.
The Ark itself represents Jesus Christ. The Tablets represent Jesus as the Word of God, He is role model to follow, He is rule to follow. Just as the Israelites follow the Ten Commandments, We have to live by the Word of God.
As part of the meditation, let us ask ourselves these questions.
How much of Christ’s character is being reflected in my life? Am I walking in the nailed footprints of Jesus Christ ?
This is not about sentiment; it does not mean to following general rules like ‘Thou shalt not steal,’ ‘Thou shalt not covet,’ or ‘Thou shalt not murder.’ Probably deep rooted attitudes may need to change so that our lives align with His footsteps.
“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.” - Ephesians 5:1
